Bitnexa — Crypto Network Fees | bitnexa.net
When rollups and sidechains cut fees and what to check before bridging.
Layer-2 networks settle many operations off the main chain and post compressed proofs or batches back to Ethereum. Because the mainnet cost is shared across the batch, the per-transaction fee is usually a fraction of mainnet.
Rollups and sidechains differ in security assumptions. A rollup inherits security from Ethereum through proofs or data availability; a sidechain runs its own consensus and typically has lower fees but different trust assumptions.

Bridging is part of the cost. Moving funds to a layer-2 network usually involves a bridge fee and a delay, and withdrawing back to mainnet can take minutes to days depending on the design. Compare the total cost, not just the per-transaction fee.
For a plain ETH transfer, mainnet at a low base fee can already be cheap. For frequent token swaps or contract interactions, a layer-2 route is often cheaper per operation even after accounting for the bridge.
Before bridging, check the bridge fee, the withdrawal time, and whether the destination is a rollup or a sidechain. Re-check fees at the time you send, not when you planned.
